Colors of the South West

As silly as it sounds, I always forget what this region is called. I live here now - in Colorado, but “southwest” still manages to escape me when I’m asked. I grew up on an island so anything on the continental US is still just “the mainland” to me. But maybe that adds to the foreign feeling I get here: Its wild Mars-like terrain, intense colors, dry desert air, the hues a gradient of red, yellow, white.
